2015 Year of the Network Management Project?


Network monitoring and management projects tied for first place with disaster recovery and business continuity as the top IT initiatives for 2015 in a recent TechTarget poll of over 2,000 IT professionals worldwide.


Coming in at 44% of the respondents, network monitoring and management projects have been increasing over the last two years, up from 41% in 2014 and 39% in 2013.

Many IT groups are reeling from new trend after new trend – from cloud computing to bring your own device initiatives. The fact that so many groups are working on infrastructure management points to the need to make it more stable, secure and reliable.

In a separate survey, of 400 IT pros planning to buy network management and monitoring products in the next year. Respondents were asked to identify their reasons for investing in new network platforms. Their top five goals were:

  • 64% – Get better use out of existing bandwidth
  • 58% – Get help managing an increasing number of devices
  • 44% – Improve application performance
  • 38% – Improve WAN performance
  • 34% – Improve WLAN management
