Uplogix Releases Uplogix RMOS v3.5 Software Platform for Managing Distributed Networks

New platform powers Uplogix SRM appliances with the intelligence of an on-site technician, automates routine operations and local management of distributed network devices and servers

Gartner IOM Summit, Orlando, Florida (June 23, 2008) – Uplogix®, the leading provider of secure remote management (SRM) solutions, today announced the launch of the Uplogix Remote Management Operating System (Uplogix RMOS®) v3.5 intelligent software platform which powers the Uplogix 3200® and Uplogix 430® appliances to automate hundreds of routine system maintenance, configuration, fault diagnosis and recovery operations of distributed network devices and servers. Utilizing the automation capabilities of Uplogix appliances running Uplogix RMOS, enterprises across industries have been able to dramatically reduce the cost, complexity and risk of managing their distributed IT infrastructures, and improve service levels of business critical applications in the process.

“The ability to integrate access, control and enforcement for remote management operations through a single management appliance for both networking and server infrastructure, is a clear user requirement that’s so far been drastically underserved by the industry,” said Dennis Drogseth, vice president, Enterprise Management Associates.

"With the full management of remote environments increasingly falling to Network Operations, the need for a more cohesive solution with this type of breadth has become self evident.  With this new release Uplogix extends secure remote management beyond distributed networking devices by extending to servers and service processors, opening up a new option for remote server management that has never been offered before.”

Uplogix RMOS v3.5 is the first software platform to integrate IT operations and security remote management functions – such as secure remote access, local performance monitoring, policy enforcement, configuration management, fault management and service level management -;into a single solution. The platform automates up to 70 percent of routine maintenance and recovery operations with the intelligence of an on-site technician, more consistently, faster and at an affordable price point than other traditional point product solutions. Enterprises experience reduced IT support costs by 25 to 50 percent by performing routine maintenance without burdening IT staff and avoiding unnecessary support calls and trips caused by incidents and unplanned downtime.

Uplogix RMOS v3.5 is available in two versions – Standard and Advanced. The Standard version includes native support to manage any IP device with a console (serial) port, to provide active management of those devices 7×24 without burdening manual support.

The Advanced version contains all of the remote management capabilities in the Standard version, and includes advanced server and application management features such as Service Level Verification (SLV). SLV monitors, measures and manages the performance of critical network services and applications from an end-user’s perspective including TCP/IP communications, Web-based transactions and voice over IP telephony. Uplogix RMOS v3.5 Advanced expands Uplogix’ capabilities for remotely managing distributed servers with:

Service Processor Automation Using IPMI. Provides users with the ability to manage diagnose and recover servers, even if the OS has hung or the server is powered down.

KVM over Service Processor. Allows IT administrators to gain local access and control to a remote server (i.e. provisioning, monitoring, troubleshooting, restricting access) via a local desktop without having to deploy external KVM appliances, functioning independent of the server’s operating system or primary network connection.

Remote Web Access. Provides secure access to remote devices with Web-only management interfaces or no console port without requiring additional overhead to manage, leaving no need to consume an additional switch port, maintain VLANs or manage user access for more devices.

Pricing and Availability
Uplogix RMOS v3.5 will be available in July 2008. Uplogix RMOS v3.5 Standard comes pre-loaded on the Uplogix 3200 and Uplogix 430 appliances.
