iDirect Partners with Uplogix to Help Customers Lower Onsite Network Maintenance Costs

Technology brings new levels of monitoring, control and automation to remote IT and communications equipment to strengthen network reliability

Herndon, Virginia and Austin, Texas (June 17, 2009) -; VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), a company of VT Systems Inc (VT Systems) today announced an agreement with Uplogix, a leading provider of secure remote management (SRM) solutions, to resell the Uplogix product suite. The agreement provides a new option for iDirect customers to resolve onsite technical issues that may compromise their networks. iDirect will market the Uplogix SRM devices in the maritime, cellular backhaul, and oil and gas industries, where telecommunications equipment often resides in extremely remote locations and can be difficult and costly to manage. iDirect is a world leader in satellite-based IP communications technology.

Uplogix SRM devices can be co-located with iDirect satellite routers, antennas and terrestrial networking equipment such as switches, firewalls, servers and other routers, enabling remote monitoring and control of satellite and terrestrial-based network equipment. Uplogix devices automate routine onsite administration, maintenance and recovery tasks, and provide centralized IT experts local access to all devices to perform in-depth diagnostics and troubleshooting within seconds of an incident, and before it affects the end-user.

"Our partnership with Uplogix is an important development in iDirect’s commitment to providing a reliable platform to manage IP networks in the most demanding environments," said Toni Lee Rudnicki, iDirect chief marketing officer. "With Uplogix technology now offered in iDirect’s overall product line, our customers can benefit from a single source and full support from iDirect’s Technical Assistance Center (TAC). This will allow them to confidently manage remote locations without worrying about network downtime or the time, cost and potential errors associated with manual onsite IT support.”

The solution will solve challenges for providers offering services for maritime, oil and gas and cellular backhaul communications. For example, when a mobile network experiences service degradation at a rural location, diagnosis and repair often requires a site visit that can take days to address. The resulting loss of coverage can cause potential economic, social and even medical issues until it is restored. Managing communications equipment onboard a maritime vessel is similarly complex. It often involves transporting an IT specialist to a vessel at sea or delaying maintenance until the vessel comes to port, which can leave the ship with limited or no communications for an extended period of time. The Uplogix solution uses an out-of-band method to remotely diagnose and automate restoration of network availability faster and more cost-effectively than many current options.

“Emerging vertical markets are a major area of growth for Uplogix and highlight how our technology significantly improves infrastructure management in remote locations," Mark Piening, Uplogix VP product management and marketing. "The combination of Uplogix secure remote management with iDirect’s leading satellite IP communications platform brings additional value to satellite customers, whose business relies on constant connectivity in harsh and demanding locations.”
