Winegard and Uplogix deliver automated management of satellite antennas for new functionality and expanded reliability

New integration between industry leading products enables persistent access and programmable responses for equipment in the field.

Austin, Texas (November 18, 2010) – Uplogix, the leading provider of network management automation, and Winegard Company, a leader and innovator in mobile satellite and antenna solutions, today announced the interoperability of their products, bringing a new level of uptime and reduced support costs to satellite communications.

Deployed in remote and often rugged locations to provide Internet and phone connectivity, controllers for Winegard auto-acquiring antennas are now compatible with Uplogix remote management appliances. The appliances are able to monitor parameters on the antenna controllers and issue commands to enable, reposition, retarget and stow the antenna. This functionality allows operators to control remote equipment as if they were onsite.

“We’re excited to work with Uplogix to bring this level of remote management to our customers,” said Brent Guffey, director of sales and marketing for Winegard’s Special Products Group. “With antennas deployed all over the Earth, the added functionality Uplogix brings will enable even greater connectivity over satellite.”

The Uplogix platform combines local access to devices like satellite components and traditional IP networking gear with onboard intelligence to automate management—whether the network is up or down. A customizable rules engine makes it possible to create specialized operations such as stowing an antenna on a satellite truck when power is cut in preparation for travel. Especially valuable in satellite-enabled networks, Uplogix integrates with an out-of-band connection to provide persistent management access to remote sites.

“Uplogix has delivered automation to remote satellite installations for the oil & gas and defense industries for several years,” said James Dollar, Uplogix chief architect and founder. “Integrating with Winegard antennas allows us to expand functionality for our customers who deploy a variety of auto-acquire and stabilized antennas in their networks.”

Mutual Winegard and Uplogix customer Data Technology Solutions (DTS) utilizes Winegard’s antenna systems for their portfolio of connectivity services for the oil and gas, maritime and disaster recovery industries. DTS standardizes on Uplogix across all deployments for remote systems management and local automation. This integration and interoperability gives DTS the same high level of visibility and manageability of service across the fleet of Winegard systems that DTS deploys.
