Advances in out-of-band network management go far beyond traditional expectations
New webinar to highlight differences between industry perceptions of out-of-band functionality and the expanded capabilities that Uplogix delivers
AUSTIN, Texas (February 13, 2014) – In a new series of webinars beginning on March 5, 2014, Uplogix will show audiences the difference between traditional out-of-band network management functionality and the expanded abilities of the Local Management platform.
Out-of-band management, or the ability to connect to network infrastructure like routers, switches, firewalls, and servers through an alternate path other than the production network, is an established technology. It’s common to use console or terminal servers to gain access to devices remotely for administration over a POTS line, cellular modem or even a secondary network.
Uplogix delivers the connectivity, security and reliability functionality of a high-end console server, but adds to it onboard processing, storage and automation features that establish Local Management as a distinct technology in the network management space.
“When you have a game-changing product that doesn’t fit neatly into a market quadrant, one challenge is getting prospective customers to expand their expectations for what’s possible,” said Lisa Frankovitch, Uplogix senior vice-president for sales and business development. “This series of webinars will introduce Uplogix within the context of the familiar, then show how we go way beyond what many think are the limits of network management.”
Traditional terminal servers provide access for administrators to connect to devices similarly to how they would if they were in the same physical location. But these devices are merely tools that rely on an administrator to take all actions. An Uplogix Local Manager (LM) uses the same console connections to continuously monitor devices independently of the network. This means that during a network outage, when information is needed the most, information continues to be collected, is shared with the NOC, and actions can be taken – either automatically by the LM or by an admin using secure remote access to the troubled device.
The webinar will show how a Local Manager is equipped and positioned to automatically solve many of the day-to-day network issues that consume a large portion of IT time and effort. Case studies will demonstrate the wide reach of Local Management – from deployments with the US military in battle zones to the secure data centers of Wall Street’s biggest players.
