Most intelligent and secure out-of-band platform to demo at CiscoLive 2015 in Melbourne
Uplogix to exhibit solutions for better management of remote networks with reliable automation for device monitoring and fault remediation, secure connectivity and network traffic failover that virtually eliminates downtime.
MELBOURNE (March 17, 2015) – Uplogix begins exhibiting at the Cisco Live World of Solutions today, demonstrating its Local Management Platform. The event will provide an opportunity to demonstrate some of the key features of the product.
Built on the premise that the barrier to effective and trusted automation in network management was that traditional tools relied on the network itself, Uplogix works from an out-of-band position. By connecting to devices over the console port locally, Uplogix automates detection and recovery of level-1 issues—the day-to-day problems that impact SLAs and take up the bulk of IT time and effort.
Unlike console servers used for out-of-band access, the Uplogix platform is a secure appliance. It is not possible to get to a root Linux prompt that could be a vector for a security breach. The solid state drives in an Uplogix Local Manager appliance are available with 256-bit AES compliant data encryption. In fact, the entire Uplogix solution is FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified by NIST (the National Institute of Standards and Technology).
When it comes to secure connectivity, Uplogix has a variety of options from a v.92 modem to cell modems from different carriers (including high bandwidth LTE), fiber modules and satellite links such as Iridium and Inmarsat. This means that gear is always accessible, anywhere on earth. The out-of-band connection is invaluable for network management, but can also be used as a failover for network traffic in the event of losing the primary connection.
“Uplogix is all about making better decisions for network management,” said James Dollar, founder and CTO of Uplogix. “Even when our appliance uses the out-of-band connection for primary network traffic failover, it’s within the context of the situation with actions based on pre-set rules.”
For example, in addition to network traffic failing over the out-of-band link, Uplogix could push a configuration change to the router, allowing only critical types of traffic to use the connection and push an alert to the NOC that automatically creates a trouble ticket at the same time. If the primary path returns, Uplogix can restore the infrastructure to its initial configuration and notify the NOC.
For administrators working on remote gear, Uplogix serves as a “toolbox” for pushing config changes. This includes the SurgicalRollback feature, where Uplogix can automatically back-out changes made to a device that led to the admin getting cut off.
When a device fails and must be replaced, Uplogix can recognize when the replacement device is connected and automatically push the previous configuration. This bare-metal restore can save considerable time and onsite technical experience required to replace a device and get it up and working.
Uplogix will be demonstrating these features and more at the Cisco Live Australia World of Solutions in Melbourne, from Tuesday, March 17th through the 20th. For more information on Cisco Live, visit cisco.com/web/ANZ, or follow #CLMel on Twitter.
