Uplogix Launches New Fully-Integrated Remote Management Appliance at Affordable Price Point

The Uplogix 430 is ideal for large organizations needing a cost-effective means to affordably manage handful of devices across multiple remote locations with no local IT support

Gartner IOM Summit, Orlando, FL (June 23, 2008) – Uplogix, the leading provider of secure remote management (SRM) solutions, today announced the release of the Uplogix 430, a new compact, fixed 4-port version of the Uplogix SRM appliance designed for large enterprises needing to cost-effectively manage a handful of devices at multiple remote locations with limited or no local IT support. The Uplogix 430 is the first remote management appliance that provides a comprehensive integrated platform that eliminates the dependency on a combination of more expensive point solutions. The appliance is powered by the Uplogix Remote Management Operating System (Uplogix RMOS) software platform, which directs Uplogix SRM appliances to remotely automate hundreds of routine system maintenance, configuration, fault diagnosis and recovery operations.

“We are excited about the new Uplogix 430 appliance because it will allow us to affordably manage our customer’s remote sites that have been cost-prohibitive to manage with traditional tools because of no local IT support and the time and cost to get there,” said John Wells, director of Managed Services, WWT. “Having constant, secure access and control over our customers ‘ distributed IT infrastructures through Uplogix gives us a sense of comfort and confidence knowing we’re able to save thousands of dollars in support costs while improving network availability and ensuring high quality of service to our customers at the lowest possible price.”

With its compact design and low power consumption, the Uplogix 430 is well-suited for deployments having physical space limitations or non-racked environments. Targeting a new market segment of large organizations, the Uplogix 430 delivers the option to manage more locations and devices remotely than ever before to save on labor costs and stay within existing budgets without compromising service levels.

“In this tough economic climate, enterprise IT staff are looking to cut costs but still deliver high quality service,” stated Tom Goldman, CEO, Uplogix. “The Uplogix 430 solves this challenge by giving customers a more affordable option for locally managing their many remote locations than deploying scarce and talented IT staff or expensive third party support. No other vendor offers a remote management solution with as much integrated functionality at an affordable price point.”

According to The Aberdeen Group, the interest in solutions to cut branch management costs is high.  “Our recent research, The Roadmap to the Next Generation Branch Office Networks (February 2008), shows 55 percent of branches have 25 people or less, and are searching for ways to deliver high quality service to remote sites without compromising budgets,” said Bojan Simic, research analyst, The Aberdeen Group.  With integrated functionality for access, control and enforcement, the Uplogix 430 can automate as much as 70 percent of routine network maintenance functions and autonomously address the majority of issues that cause network-related outages. Problems that today might require IT staff on-site physically to resolve are detected by Uplogix SRM appliances in seconds and resolved in minutes, avoiding costly downtime.

The release of the Uplogix 430 comes on the heels of the company renaming its flagship SRM product line. The Uplogix SRM platform now includes:

  • Uplogix Remote Management Operating System (RMOS) v3.5 – RMOS is Uplogix’ intelligent software platform that powers the automation capabilities of Uplogix SRM appliances, and is available in two versions – Standard and Advanced. The Advanced version features the same powerful remote management capabilities as the Standard version but also includes advanced device and application management features, such as Service Level Verification (SLV) and server management capabilities including Service Processor Automation using IPMI and KVM over Service Processor.

  • Uplogix 430 – The Uplogix 430 is the newest addition to the Uplogix SRM platform family and comes in two versions – Standard and Advanced. The Advanced version comes with advanced RMOS and includes Service Level Verification (SLV) which monitors, measures and manages the performance of critical network services and applications from the end-user’s perspective including TCP/IP communications, web-based transactions and voice over IP telephony.

  • Uplogix 3200 – Previously known as Envoy, the Uplogix 3200 is the company’s flagship SRM appliance, available in 4-, 8-, 16-, 24-, or 32-port models, delivers advanced remote management capabilities for data centers, branch offices and remote locations on a more robust and flexible platform. The Uplogix 3200 is a scalable, cost-effective remote management solution for enterprises requiring a more robust and expandable solution to locally manage an ever-growing infrastructure of distributed networking gear, servers and other IT devices located at distributed sites. Uplogix 3200 is also available in both Standard and Advanced versions.

  • Uplogix Control Center – Previously known as the Envoy Management Station (EMS), Uplogix Control Center is the Web-based, centralized point of control for all Uplogix SRM appliances and managed devices throughout the distributed IT environment. With its online graphical user interface (GUI), Control Center puts IT administrators in control of real-time data to easily manage, configure, and control all network devices and servers connected to Uplogix SRM appliances.

“Uplogix’ decision to extend and rename our product line represents the outcome of primary research with customers, prospects and partners, and will help enterprises better identify with and extend the implementation of Uplogix’ hardware and software offerings as they come to market,” said Mark Piening, VP of Marketing, Uplogix.  “Customers have told us that they buy Uplogix for the power of trusted and integrated automation, which is possible by delivering a hardware platform that was designed to enable remote management tasks that are integrated with and powered by our software. The customer response to our patent-pending platform has been very favorable, and we look forward to the future growth these changes are bringing to the SRM market and our business.”

The Uplogix 430 will be available in July 2008. Pricing starts at $2,500 (US) per appliance, with discounts available for high volume purchases and deployments.
