Uplogix to provide reliable remote management for Orange Business Services $12 million satcom contract with BW Offshore
Provider of floating production services for the oil and gas industry will benefit from unified communications deployed by a single provider and strengthened by Local Management
AUSTIN, Texas (September 12, 2014) – Uplogix Local Management will be deployed for satcom infrastructure management in an agreement recently announced by Orange Business Services and BW Offshore that will integrate BW’s fleet of 14 ships and two land-based locations into the Orange MPLS network. Orange is a longtime Uplogix customer using the Local Management platform to deliver reliable and cost-effective “office at sea” networks over maritime satellite connections.
The contract will give BW a single provider with end-to-end responsibility for delivering services with predictable speed, quality and security. Orange provides integrated satellite and land-based services designed to allow customers to avoid using the public internet for less complexity and greater control.
Uplogix brings Orange a virtual support presence in the equipment rack for in-depth local monitoring of both satellite communications equipment like antennas and modems, as well as IP networking gear like routers and switches.
Management and recovery of routine device issues can be automated, ensuring that problems are not only detected, but often fixed without human intervention.
For issues that require support, out-of-band links allow remote access to gear as if the technician were onsite. This is especially critical in maritime situations where a service call can often require a helicopter trip.
The BW Offshore is the world’s second largest Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) fleet. The vessels are designed to receive hydrocarbons from nearby drilling platforms or wells and process them onsite. Then the oil is stored until it can be offloaded to a tanker. This system is used most often in remote production sites, which underscores the importance of reliable satellite communications and network management.
