MTN deploys virtual Local Management

Uplogix has begun deploying this month as a VM running on a server to manage satellite-linked networks at sea for MTN. These Virtual Local Managers utilize VMware to run the Uplogix software and connect to devices using USB to Serial adapters plugged into

the server itself by USB and the managed devices over serial. An out-of-band channel is mapped to an Ethernet input from a secondary network.
These installations being piloted by MTN Satellite Communications take advantage of existing infrastructure to deploy Local Management without the traditional Uplogix hardware, yet still deliver the full functionality of network-independent network management.

The USB to serial connections ensure that device connections are made over the console port, allowing device management whether the network is up or down. For the out-of-band connection, a broadband link from Inmarsat provides plenty of bandwidth for management activities.

Look for the MTN case study coming soon.
